Dear Students, Parents and Families,

Welcome to Mountain View Elementary School!

I hope you had a wonderful summer and are ready for a fun and challenging school year. Mountain View serves a population of approximately 640 students in preschool through fifth grade. Our school includes students from many diverse backgrounds. We are proud to be the home of one of the largest deaf and hard of hearing center school programs in the state of Colorado as well. We have up to 29 classrooms and our class sizes vary according to the grade level and programming needs of the students. We offer a tuition based full day kindergarten as well as half day kindergarten. Each class, K-5, attends art, music, computer, and physical education on a rotation basis and our school library/media center is the heart of our building. In addition, we offer BASE, which is a tuition based district Before and After School Enrichment program, to help meet the childcare needs of families.

Mountain View has a long standing tradition of excellence due to the hard work toward academic achievement by the students, staff and parents working in a collaborative manner. We believe in the partnership between the home and school and want to foster that relationship at all times. By volunteering in the classroom or school, you are more ‘in tune’ with what your child is learning and the expectations for success in each subject area.

I would encourage you to become involved in our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). This group meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria and free childcare is provided. Watch the monthly parent newsletter for details about other opportunities to become involved on committees to support the education of our students.

There are also many opportunities for you to become active in our greater school community.  You may choose to volunteer in the classrooms or the library/media center. Another option may be to help your child’s teacher with special projects that you are able to do from your home in the evening or to perhaps go on a field trip or two throughout the year. Please check with your child’s teacher to see what he/she may need your help with during the school year.

The single most important thing you can do to support your child’s education is to read at least 20 minutes each day with them at home. Children can read to their parents and parents can read to their children. It doesn’t always have to be at bedtime either. If you are not there to tuck them in, do it whenever you can. The important thing is to make it a daily habit. Not only will you be helping them to be more successful academically, but the emotional rewards are long reaching.

Please feel free to stop by the office if you have questions or concerns or just want to say hello. Our administrative team believes in an ‘open door’ policy and welcomes all parents to take advantage of this. You are important and if we are available, we will be there for you. My email address is tracey.amend@adams12.org or you can reach me at 720-972-5520.

The Mountain View staff looks forward to an exciting school year! I look forward to getting to know those of you whom I do not already know and to continuing to work with those of you whom I do. Mountain View is such a great school with an excellent staff and I couldn’t be more proud to be the principal of this school. Together, with you as our partners, we can help all of our students become successful in both academic achievement as well as productive citizenship.

Welcome to Mountain View if you are new; welcome back if you are returning. On behalf of the staff, we are so happy to have all of you here and we are looking forward to a great year!

Sincerely,

Tracey Amend                                                                                                                                                                                Principal
