Mr. Shaffer's Class

General Education

Hello, and welcome to fourth-grade!  I'm Guy Shaffer, and I am excited to be your child's teacher this year.

Beginning a new school year using remote learning will present some challenges, but we are commited to working hard to overcome any obstacles that we may encounter.  Communication will be crucial this year and you can find several ways to contact me below.  Hopefully, we will be back to in-person learning at Mountain View in the near future.  When that happens, some of the information below will be updated, but for now, it will explain our remote learning process.

We will utilize a Zoom meeting to do our teaching over the computer.  Click here for the link to my Zoom meeting.  Students will then keep that Zoom call open all day from 8:00 A.M. to 3 P.M.  We will start each day with a morning meeting and then go into lessons in our content areas and specials.  On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, we will do "live" teaching online.  On Wednesdays, students will be given some assignments to complete independently and can also catch up on any overdue work--there will be no live teaching that day.  However, you can still reach me via email and text on Wednesdays should you have questions about the assignments or technical issues.

Students will log in to Schoology using their Adams 12 username and password.  All schedules and assignments will be posted in Schoology under Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday folders for that week.  I will guide the students through all of this.

We utilize a variety of cooperative learning strategies daily to build community, engage students, and enhance learning opportunities throughout the day.  Several "brain breaks" will be built in to keep the students active.

Please refer to our monthly newsletters to learn what we are doing specifically in each content area throughout the year.  You can access these newsletters from a link on the fourth-grade web page.  If you have any questions about the information found here or can't find the information you need for this class, please contact me directly via e-mail (, text or call at my cell phone number (given out at Meet Your Teacher Night, or email me for it), classroom phone (720.972.8434), or in person in room A-13.  You can also reach me by hitting the Contact button at the top of this page.  I look forward to getting to know you all this year and having a great year with the students!
