Reading Challenge

Welcome to the Library Reading Challenges!

Guidelines for Caldecott Challenge:

  • Students must read 50 Caldecott Award winning books before leaving Mountain View.
  • Books must be from 50 different publication years.
  • Students turn in a response sheet for each book they read. Response sheets are available in the library or you can print them off the website, below.  A Google Form version of the response sheet is also available here.
  • Library personnel will track all returned sheets.
  • Students are eligible to participate from 1st to 5th grade.

Guidelines for Newbery Challenge:

  • Students must read 25 Newbery Award winning books before leaving Mountain View.
  • Students turn in a response sheet for each book they read. Response sheets are available in the library or you can print them off the website, below.  A Google Form version of the response sheet is also available here. 
  • Library personnel will track all returned sheets.
  • Students are eligible to participate from 3rd to 5th grade.

Guidelines for Non-fiction Challenge:

  • Students must read 50 Non-fiction books before leaving Mountain View.
  • Students must read at least one book  from each "100" in the Dewey decimal system including a biography.
  • Students turn in a response sheet for each book they read. Response sheets are available in the library or you can print them off the website, below. Please note that there is a response sheet for grades 1-2 and a different response sheet for grades 3-5.  A Google Form version of the response sheet is also available here for grades 1 and 2, and here for grades 3-5
  • Library personnel will track all returned sheets.
  • Students are eligible to participate from 1st to 5th grade.

READING CHALLENGES MUST BE STARTED BY JANUARY 1 TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR AN AWARD IN THAT SCHOOL YEAR.
