I am a Teacher of Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in grades kindergarten through second grade. My classroom has mix of students, grades, and communication modes who benefit from small group learning through direct communication in simultaneous communication. I teach using sign language and talking at the same time. This is my 10th year teaching in this classroom with 2 years experience in the mainstream. Overall, this is my 12th year in Mountain View's DHH program. In my classroom, we love to learn through play, have fun, and work hard. We have high expectations for students to do the best of their individual abilities and to have fun trying! We learn about the seven habits in the classroom and accept everyone for their differences.
Other than teaching DHH students, I am also co-coordinator of the Gifted and Talented program, one of the directors of Signing Choir and a coach for Girls Run the World running club. I enjoy the mulitple roles I have at Mountain View. Each role represents an important part of my life. I truly enjoy working with a wide variety of students and their needs. I also love giving students an outlet to become stronger individuals, gain empathy of others, and learn how to socialize and communicate with anyone! Being a teacher of the DHH and GT co-cooridinator, I have the ability to work with students during school on their academic, social and emotional needs. The after school clubs (Signing Choir and Girls Run the World) allow me to help students learn to accept and appreciate others and learn how to express themselves through creative outlets.
