I am very excited (and nervous) to start my 3rd year here at Mountain View remotely. I am ready to continue all of our amazing PE learning from last year and hopeful it will be fun, meaningful, joyful and engaging for our students.
After graduating from Rangeview High School in Aurora, CO. in 2001 (lettering in Academics, Art, Football and Track and Field), my journey took me to the United States Navy. I enlisted as a Combat Photographer and later joined the Special Forces as a Search and Rescue Swimmer stationed with the USS Belleau Wood out of San Diego, CA. After being honorably discharged, I became a Lifeguard in Golden, CO. and studied with the National Academy of Sports Medicine to become a Certified Personal Trainer. I landed a job with 24 Hour Fitness for almost four years, during which time I graduated from Metropolitan State University with a degree in Human Performance and Sport with a K-12 Physical Education licensure. I subbed in the district for 4 months and spent 6 years with Rocky Mountain Elementary right down the road. This will be my 9th year as a Physical Literacy and Education teacher in Adams 12 and I am currently seeking my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership (online of course) through Walden University.
Professionally, I will make every attempt to infuse wellness, health and vitality within our community. My hope is to guide students in their understanding of struggling, learning, failing and growing in the Physical Education setting. I will sum up my teaching philosophy with the insightful words of one of my lovely 5th graders I watched grow from 1st grade: “You’re not just trying to teach us how to be healthy and strong, you want us to be kind, respectful people.” Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Personally, I am the blessed (and lucky) husband of almost 11 years to my beautiful wife, Jessica, who I actually met in a bookstore. I have a vivacious, independent 8-year-old daughter, Vivi, that is entering 3rd grade and will climb absolutely anything and everything if given half a chance. My 5-year-old son Nolan will be starting Kindergarten this year and defintely doesn't ever fight with his sister... I also have 2 dogs, Mack and June-Bug that probably don’t get enough walks…sorry guys.
If I am not teaching, my wife will tell you I can’t really stop moving. I still do or have done just about every physical activity you can imagine. However, some of the ones I am passionate about and continue to love to this day include: surfing, snowboarding, hiking, swimming, spike-ball, tennis, football, obstacle course racing, parkour, rock-climbing, calisthenics…oh, and playing at the park with my kids.
